ACS Brisbane shelter can take in up to 150 guinea pigs at any given time. 45 or so of the guinea pigs at the shelter remain permanent residents of the shelter for various reasons. The shelter is large-scale and spreads across an acre of land and is split into separate areas. The Brisbane shelter is open to the public throughout the week and on the weekends. Appointments are arranged over the phone for visiting, surrenders or adoptions. Visits to the shelter to gain advice and ideas regarding guinea pig housing and care, is always welcome.

The Brisbane shelter enclosures for the guinea pigs vary throughout the property. We like to present to visitors a wide range of housing options for guinea pigs. Our enclosures include C&C cages, enclosures created by transforming furniture including beds, compartment style hutches, indoor compartment style hutches, outdoor hutches and outdoor play runs.

At ACS Brisbane Shelter our aim is to to inspire by presenting a high standard of endless ideas for guinea pigs and their correct care. We also try to create a calming/relaxed atmosphere and decor for the guinea pigs in which we care for. We find this atmosphere also helps to show members of the public that guinea pigs are very clean animals that can be appropriately be kept indoors.

Area B is located in a secluded, mostly shaded quiet location on the property with the surrounding bush as its backdrop. The area includes three large enclosures for adoptable guinea pigs with each enclosure decorated in a theme. We also have a small grassed lawn area with lawn runs for playtime.

Area A is where the shelters permanent residents reside. Area are is a three bay air conditioned/heated garage. The garage is balinese/indian themed and is adorned with dim lighting, guinea pig ornaments, stereo system and artworks and a stunning balinese coffee setting. The permanent residents are housed in large compartment style hutches in one half of the garage. The hutches house 2-3 guinea pigs in each and are 2m x 70cm in size. We have a large custom made barrel feature display in the centre of the garage which houses 8 of the permanent residents. Down the other end of the garage are two 1.5m long three story painted enclosures and another two-storey enclosure. These are our decorated/themed boarding enclosures. We are able to cater for up to 20 guinea pigs boarding while their family are away on holidays. All of our hand mixed fresh feeds are stored in the garage. Our quality range of guinea pig grain mixes are available to purchase from the shelter when visiting.

ACS Brisbane Shelter is home to many native animal residents including possums and koalas which can be frequently seen in the surrounding trees around the property. The shelter has permanent resident possums which have grown up on the property and are people friendly and can be hand fed and patted. Mr Possum and his friend enjoy scampering into the house at night and frequently try to raid the pantry for their dinner!

Area C is where our office can be found. It is better known as 'The Shabby Cavy Shack'. It is a funky little shabby chic den adorned with the shelter managers personal collection of guinea pig ornaments/books/stuffed toys/artwork and other guinea pig related collectables.

Area D: Area D is our treatment room and herb/vegetable garden. This area is separate to other areas of the shelter as the guinea pigs here are in medical treatment and need to remain away from other guinea pigs. Area D consists of a small site shed building where unwell guinea pigs reside and the site shed also stores all the ACS Medical supplies. The shed also contains power and a sink and is decorated with a Balinese theme.
