Marked
The marked group is a large
group of breeds. The markings on the guinea pigs in this group are placed
specifically which is what distinguishes one from the other they comprise
of patches, spots, roaning, brindling and points.
Tortoiseshell and White (TSW):
TSW'S are Black/Red/White in colour. The colours are evenly distributed in
" patches " down the sides of the guinea pigs body with an opposite colour
on either side.
Brindle:
The brindle is black and gold and the two
colours intermingle evenly with each other to create a brindled effect.
Dalmatian:
Dalmatians come in many colours although are
mostly found in chocolate or black. The head is a solid colour as are all
four feet and the " spots ". The guinea pig has a white blaze down the
face and has a white body.
Himalayan:
Himalayans can be found in either black or
chocolate. The ears/nose ( smut ) and feet are all one colour and the body
is white. Some Himalayans are darker and richer in colour than others.
Himalayans are born completely white and then develop their " points "
after a few weeks.
Magpie:
Magpies are marked similar to the
tortoiseshell and white although consist of only black/white and
black/white brindling patches.
Roan:
Roans consist of two colours, white and
another colour. The head of the roan is a solid colour and all four feet
are the same solid colour. The rest of the body is the same solid colour
although is mixed with white hairs. Roaning itself can be found on many
guinea pigs although the Roan breed itself is described as above.
Dutch:
Dutch guinea pigs are a mix of two colours one
of the two colours being white. They have a white blaze running down the
face/shoulders are white and the middle of the body is also white. Their
should be a line around the lower waist where the second colour begins and
continues to the back/rump of the guinea pig. Each cheek of the guinea pig
should match this second colour. The Dutch guinea pigs feet should all
remain white.
Bi-Colour: The Bi-Colour should
have the same patching as a TSW although the Bi-Colour consists of only
two colours.
Tri-Colour:
The Tri-Colour should have the same patching
as a TSW although the three colours on the guinea pig can be any other
colour combination other than black/red/white.
Sable:
The sable is a very hard to find breed and is
quite rare. The guinea pig is a solid blackish/chocolate colour with the
ears/nose ( smut ) and feed of the guinea pig all a darker shade of the
same colour.
Harlequin:
The Harlequin is similar to the magpie although the colours on the guinea
pig are either chocolate or black with cream patches and black/cream
brindled patches.
