How to build your connect-a-grid cage

Their are so many styles to build a connect-a-grid cage the building can vary so much. Below is a basic tutorial for how to build your standard 2 grid x 4 grid connect-a-grid cage. Below is also a link to a photo tutorial on the cavy cages website which you may also wish to view to help you create your cage.

You will need

Tape measure    Knife/Stanley Knife or Scissors    Cable Ties    Grids    Pen

Sheet of Corflute 1.8m in length by 1.2m in length.

Step 1: Measure and cut your piece of corflute to size. To do this simply connect your grids using cable ties or connectors provided and stand them together how they would with with the base inserted. Grab your tape measure and measure from the inside of the cage the length by width of the cage ( always minus/take off 2 centimetres from your length x width so that your base fits easily into the cage once created ). For a 2 x 4 cage this measurement for your base should come to approximately 138cm x 68 cm. Now this will be the dimensions for your base but you will also need to allow for your side barriers. The size barrier height recommendation is 18cm high. So onto your 138cm x 68cm you need to add 18cm to each side. This should give you a new length x width of  174cm x 104cm. With your pen before cutting your sheet of corflute mark in from each side your 18cm barriers so that you know where to fold your corflute ( look below for example ).

Step 2: With your scissors/stanley knife or knife trace down your lines but don't cut right through the corflute just indent through the first layer of corflute so to make the corflute easier to bend when you need to fold up your sides.

Step 3: Cut through one of your 18cm lines on each corflute side where you will be bending your sides.

Step 4: Bend each 18cm side round to form your barriers. Connect the sides together by poking a hole through the top of the corflute and connect using cable ties. You can also use tape as pictured below although cable ties will give you a more permanent and stronger connected side.

Step 5: After connecting all four sides you should now have your solid  base formed.

Step 6: Your base should neatly be able to slide into your connect-a-grid cage forming your completed cage.
