About this event

Help us to take a stand for small animal awareness! Show your support for all animals, great and small, by attending the very first Australian Cavy Sanctuary (ACS) major event.

The ACS is a completely non-profit and non-funded community purpose organisation managed by a dedicated team of shelter managers and volunteers who are truly passionate about the welfare and awareness of guinea pigs.

Our objectives are:

1.       To educate the community on the correct care and humane treatment of guinea pigs.

2.       A commitment to raising awareness and working to change the stereotypical low valued view guinea pigs have endured.

3.       To supply aid and sanctuary to ill, injured, neglected, pregnant and found guinea pigs.

4.       To re-home guinea pigs appropriately through adoption procedures maintained by the operation of shelters managed by ACS volunteers and staff.

5.       To take whatever steps are necessary within the law to improve the quality of life, value and respect of all guinea pigs and to be the voice for those that are trapped in situations of abuse and mistreatment.

  1.   To support and actively endorse all aspects of animal welfare.

The ACS ‘Pignic in the Park’ is an educational day where ACS and other organisations can bring forth products and information that are not always readily available on the market. For the kids there will be a Christmas twist, and other fun-filled educational games running throughout the day. For anyone passionate about their pets and to all those who have supported ACS or who have adopted guinea pigs through us, this event is definitely not to be missed.

This is also an event to raise some much needed funds for the organisation as we struggle constantly throughout each year to cover the ongoing costs. ACS shelters are overseen by Brisbane shelter manager and ACS Founder, Jessica Proietti. All managers of ACS shelters pay for all costs of managing their shelters from their own pockets - including medical and vet bills, general care and feed bills, and other funds which may be spent on awareness displays and events.

The long term goal for the ACS is to expand and eventually raise enough funds to purchase land in order to build a fully operational large-scale small animal shelter.

The ACS has invited many like-minded organisations and stallholders to this event that we genuinely support.

Promotion of the event

The event will be promoted through the use of radio, television, local newspapers and leaflet drops to local schools, vets, animal product stores, produce stores, local libraries, and shopping centres.

We encourage stallholders and organisations attending the event to help promote the event through your newsletters, e-mail, and word of mouth. ACS is able to supply your organisation with full colour A3 posters or A5 leaflets. Please contact us if you wish to have posters mailed to you and how many you require.

Animals at the event

Animals are welcome at the event. However, if you wish to bring animals with you, we request they be well controlled at all times, as more than 100 guinea pigs may be present on park grounds. To control the safety of all animals on the day we will have a designated and fenced off area for Pigniccers with their guinea pigs, and a sign in the area stating that no other animals may enter the ‘Pignic’ area. Security will be there on the day so that all animals and people remain safe.

Selling of animals will not be permitted at this event.

Stallholder Sites, Setup and Pulldown

This year the ACS is able to offer marquee hire to stallholders who are unable to bring their own marquee to the event. A 3m x 3m space under a weatherproof marquee is available for hire. Please contact us for further details.

Setup for stallholders on the day can begin anywhere from 7:30am – 9:30am. We advise stallholders to arrive bright and early for setup as we have an allocated area, although there will be no set allocated placing for stallholders if you bring your own marquee. Pull down is at 3:00pm.

Electricity

Power is available on the day. Stallholders needing power must contact the ACS several weeks prior to the event with details of what they require.

Stage and the Band

We will have a small stage at the event. The Band will be playing on the stage from 10:30am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-2:00pm. If you would like to use the stage for a demonstration, raffle or speech, please contact us several weeks prior to the event to book a space and time. We encourage stallholders to make use of the stage.

Car Parking

Teralba Park has ample parking for all stallholders directly beside the area that the event will be held, on the corner of Osborne Road and Pullen Road in the area with the playground and toilet blocks. If you need access to ENTER the actual park with a vehicle, we have gained vehicle access permission for you via Brisbane City Council. Vehicles are only permitted for setup before the event begins and for pack up, so your vehicle must be removed from park grounds by 9:40am.

Insurance

The ACS will not be covered for the liability of stallholders, and we recommend that individual organisations have public liability coverage for the event. If not, by attending the event you are accepting the condition that you will not be covered and that the ACS will not be held liable for any damages to property, losses or loss of income on the day. Please note that the ACS will though have ample security at the event.

Park Information

Teralba Park is very popular for families and group gatherings. The picturesque park hosts toilet facilities, many treed BBQ areas (the park is very well shaded), drinking fountains, and a fantastic playground for the kids! A major shopping centre, small shopping village, and train station are within walking distance. Teralba Park is easy to access from the main road. Mitchelton train station is approximately 10 minutes walking distance from the park.
