William's Story

William was dumped by the road in a box and left to die. He was extremely underweight and had severe mange. William was found by the RSPCA and he was then handed over to the ACS Brisbane shelter as he would have had to be euthanized due to being unwell. After only a few weeks of treatment with Ivomectin and being on a good diet he was already improving. After two months of treatment William's coat completely grew back and he had also gained weight and trust in people. When William arrived he was smaller than the size of a hand yet grew to twice the size of a hand within the course of the first couple of months which indicated he must have been fed a very poor diet and little food chronically for quite some time. After 6 months William still continued to grow and so did his coat. He now has a thick coat and the hair at the back is actually like a tail and is very long.

William has become the mascot for the Australian Cavy Sanctuary he comes along to all our Brisbane ACS displays and events he enjoys every proud moment and every ounce of love he receives. If I had not rung the RSPCA on the very week I did to offer assistance for ill guinea pigs they receive then William would have been euthanized and would not be here today. Above is William after treatment and below William when he arrived at the shelter.
