ACS Adoption Agreement Form
The Australian Cavy Sanctuary (ACS) Adoption Agreement Form is a
legally binding agreement which you, the potential adoptive parent,
must sign before adopting a guinea pig through ACS. This Form must
be filled in by you and then read and signed by the ACS Shelter
Manger of the guinea pig/s upon adopting a guinea pig from an ACS
Shelter. You must be over 18 to adopt a guinea pig through ACS.
Why this form was introduced
Animals deserve to be valued and kept as part of the family and with
this comes responsibilities to make sure they they will live long
and happy lives in their new home. Many of the animals that come
into the care of ACS are tagged as ‘red flagged’ guinea pigs. This
means that they have come from pasts of mistreatment or neglect or
that they have come into the shelter sick, unwell, pregnant or
needing behavioral or psychological care. We also have guinea pigs
come into our care from situations whereby their families simply are
unable to cater for them any longer for a variety of reasons yet
their guinea pigs have been very well cared for in the past. These
families that surrender to ACS are assured that their guinea pigs
will receive a future of love and good care and it is our duty to
make sure that they do in respect for those that choose to surrender
their guinea pigs to us and in respect for those guinea pigs that
have come from poor backgrounds.
This form was introduced in 2009 after a sad combination of update
reports of previously adopted ACS Guinea Pigs over the years
indicated to ACS that sadly although our screening process is
thorough it obviously is not thorough enough to ensure good futures
for all our animals. We hope all those that wish to adopt understand
why this form has been introduced.
The ACS Adoption Agreement
Form will be filled in in person at an ACS Shelter when you visit to
adopt. Or to process things quicker if you would like to you can
fill one of these forms online and email it to the ACS Shelter in
which you want to adopt from.
