Meet 'William'

William is a very special guinea pig. William was dumped by the side of the road and left in a box to die. He was half the size of a hand, had bad mange infestation, almost no hair and he was very skinny. The special part of William's story is as follows. William was handed in to the RSPCA by the local police but because of his condition at the time William along with any other unwell guinea pig, would have been euthanased. By some miracle the very day William was to be euthanased was the same day that Jessica ( Brisbane Shelter Manager and ACS Founder ) initially rung the RSPCA to introduce ACS and to become a contact for them to take in any sick/pregnant/injured guinea pigs and to offer service. The same afternoon Jessica contacted the RSPCA we received a phone call from the RSPCA asking if we could take on a sick guinea pig that had been surrendered. Within a few hours we went and picked him up. William's paperwork that day stated that he was to be euthanased.

William has a glow in his eyes that he never had before when he was unwell and he is a guinea pig that appreciates every moment of his new life. William now comes along to many of thel ACS displays throughout the year and he has also become the guinea pig featured on the ACS logo. William has quadrupled in size since the day he arrived at ACS Brisbane Shelter and every moment that he has a chance to shine is another moment where we realize just how much he is meant to be here and just how special he is.

The RSPCA in the months following, were able to introduce a program whereby they are now able to treat many of the unwell small animals they receive and keep them until they are well enough to be adopted. To read William's case story please click here.

UPDATE: Sadly ACS Mascot William passed away in late March 2008. William developed a massive tumor which was deamed inoperable and sadly William had to be put to sleep . William had a fighting spirit which will never be forgotten he fought till the end and he will always remain the ACS Mascot and although he has passed on in body his spirit will continue to shine and watch over the cause and if anything we believe the cause will grow stronger as he watches over. He will be dearly missed. Rest in peace William.
